Mom and Momma Mia!

Instead of a birthday gift, my mom and I decided to spend a weekend in Vegas. At the time, I was fairly well connected with the various casinos due to my job.

To my mother, listening to any album other than ABBA’s greatest hits, by ABBA, is considered musical variety. Without providing any indication as to what was in store for this musically diverse lady, I bought a pair of box seats to the Mamma Mia show in Vegas and flew to meet her there.

She expressed pre performance concern asking where I got the recommendation to see the show we were about to attend. She probed with questions like “what kind of a show is it?”

I explained that it was an Italian (I was wrong, Greek) wedding themed performance with rock and roll music. That put her on the defensive. Loud pop music and Mom don’t really mix well. I explained that we could leave this mystery performance if she didn’t like it no harm no foul.

During the intro music she expressed her music knowledge by identifying some of the ABBA riffs. The show began, the music played, and she realized she had been duped into traveling across country to sit in the best seats to see the best performance she had ever seen. She cried.
